Physical Therapy (also called physiotherapy)
Physical therapy specializes in maximizing movement and function for people of all ages. Pediatric Physical therapists (PTs) assess and treat infants, children, and teenagers with developmental, congenital, orthopedic and neuromuscular disorders, as well as those recovering from injury. They develop and manage treatment plans for each client. Play is usually intertwined with treatment to aid success.
Physical therapy goals may include working to achieve developmental milestones, as well as improving coordination, balance, strength, endurance, and sensory integration skills. Pediatric PTs treat children with poor coordination, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, and many other diagnoses. Physical therapists have a master’s degree equivalent in their field.
